Kemi's speech is rallying cry for Tories' fightback

T IS make-or-break time for Kemi Badenoch and this weekend we have seen the start of her fightback as she outlines why voters should give her party another chance.
-
AGENDA: Kemi Badenoch must show her party has solutions to all nation's problems
The Tories' final years in power were a first-class lesson in chaos, which resulted in a battering at last year's general election.
Indeed, when you have three prime ministers in the space of just five years, why would anyone take you seriously?
Add to that the squabbling between the two leadership campaigns and it's no wonder voters deserted the party. Yesterday Kemi began the hard work of winning them back with her opening speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
Labour's support came from a fed-up electorate that thought it was time to take a punt on Keir Starmer. Surely he could not be any worse? How wrong they were. Many people I know are experiencing "buyer's remorse" over backing Labour.
During the past 14 months, they have endured a cost-of-living crisis, inflation and an increase in unemployment, while businesses struggle or close due to the pernicious costs placed on them by Rachel Reeves. They have seen London crippled by striking Tube drivers, Birmingham becoming a rubbish tip as industrial action enters its 10th month, hospital appointments cancelled due to striking doctors and a record number of migrants crossing the Channel in small boats.
