New eye follows cancer

- BY HANNA GEISSLER Health Editor

TOYS and computer games might have been top of the Christmas list for many boys but Jack Whyman wanted and got something else - a new eye.

The 10-year-old has battled two types of cancer and had his left eye removed in March.

He bravely took it in his stride, even dressing up as a pirate with an eye patch for Halloween.

Now, doctors have spent three months crafting a made-to-measure prosthetic eye from acrylic.

Jack's mum Jodie, 47, said: "Jack's new eye is beautiful and it has made me emotional to see him with it.

"We have been through so much as a family and this is the perfect Christmas present for my boy to have a new eye and feel like we can try to put the past behind us and focus now on our future.

"I hope it means people won't keep asking questions and bringing up the trauma of what Jack has been through and that he can focus on enjoying life like any other 10-year-old.

"We've been to hell and back but we are determined to be positive."
