Southport police recall atrocity a year on

THE first three police officers at the Southport stabbing say the horrific attack scarred them “in ways you don’t imagine”.

Heroic Sgt Greg Gillespie, PC Luke Holden and PCSO Timothy Parry were the first Merseyside Police officers at Axel Rudakubana’s bloody attack at a Taylor Swift-themed children’s workshop a year ago today.

They earned bravery awards for storming the building, confronting Rudakubana and shielding paramedics as they tried to save the children.

Rudakubana, 18, is serving a minimum of 52 years for killing Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Bebe King, six, and Alice Aguiar, nine. Eight other children and two adults were badly hurt.
