France and UK ramp up drone patrols at sea

BRITAIN and France have agreed to ramp up their use of drones to monitor migrants attempting to cross the Channel.

The UK has already been using £400,000 state-of-the-art drones to patrol the Channel, which stopped short of the French coastline.

But now France has confirmed it will deploy aerial surveillance regularly for the first time over its Northern shores.

Home Secretary James Cleverly met French interior minister Gerald Darmanin on Tuesday to strengthen security ties between the nations.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Cleverly described the countries as "friends, neighbours and partners".
