HOLIDAYMAKERS hit by flooding in Spain and the Balearic Islands have been warned to brace themselves for more storms.

Floods hell for Spanish holiday hotspots

The Costa Blanca region and Majorca were the hardest hit by torrential rain, causing widespread disruption including the closure of Palma's airport.

As tourists headed abroad to escape the chilly weather in Britain, Spain's meteorological agency yesterday issued further severe weather warnings.

Storms and heavy rain, including hailstones, are set to batter the region today.

Yellow weather alerts in place for popular tourist hotspots on the mainland's east coast, stretching from Valencia to Almeria in the south, are likely to swell already overflowing rivers.

A yellow storm alert for Benidorm came with the possibility of heavy rain put at "100%".
