Exec branded an 'old fossil' aged 58 wins £3m payout

The payout to Glenn Cowie is one of the largest awards made by an employment tribunal.

Mr Cowie, a £300,000 a year senior manager, was sacked and replaced with a younger woman after the introduction of a new policy that meant the company was encouraged not to hire people over 45.

Dismissed

He was 58 when he was told he would be dismissed from his role as a divisional president at global engineering company Vesuvius.

It was just 18 months after CEO Patrick Andre called him an "old fossil" in the middle of a meeting with other executives, the tribunal heard.
