Diane Abbott is suspended over racism comments

LABOUR’s longest-serving MP Diane Abbott has been suspended for a second time after saying she stood by comments she made about racism two years ago.

Asked in an interview broadcast whether she regretted the incident in which she said Jewish people did not suffer racism “all their lives”, she replied: “No, not at all.”

It means five Labour MPs have had the whip withdrawn within 24 hours and will sit as independents.

Rachael Maskell, Neil Duncan-Jordan, Brian Leishman and Chris Hinchliff were all suspended on Wednesday for repeatedly rebelling against the Government.
