WHAT exactly is it about programmes like Winter On The Farm that makes us want to watch them?

I'm asking that question not to be mean or sneery (I'm never mean or sneery on a Wednesday; I like to take the day off) but because I'm genuinely curious, speaking as a fan of such shows myself.What is it that draws us to them, I wonder, in this case for what will be three nights on the trot? As viewers, precisely what idea are we buying into? That farming is an enviable way to earn a living? I'd love to think it was, but it doesn't sound like it. Quite the opposite, in fact.
