Claims of modern slavery soar 250%
Daily Express
|September 22, 2025
THE number of migrants claiming to be victims of modern slavery to avoid deportation has risen by 250% in four years.
Last year there were 4,646 referrals, up from 1,307 in 2020.
And 65% of those last year were deemed to have no reasonable grounds, compared with just 16% four years earlier.
The figures suggest some asylum seekers are attempting to game the system, using laws meant to protect people who have been exploited.

Help our hospitals recover by boosting health care at home
A RECENT analysis of NHS data shows that patients staying in hospital longer than medically necessary are costing the health service more than £200million a month. These are people who are fit to be discharged but can’t leave because the right care simply isn’t available in the community. The result? Beds taken by people who don’t need to be there, while patients wait in corridors or ambulances for treatment.
