Care workers on less than minimum pay

MORE than seven out of 10 care workers are paid less than the minimum wage, largely explaining the 111,000 vacancies in the sector.

Vulnerable people who need support are suffering as a result, said Dan Archer, whose firm Visiting Angels provides care for 3,000 people.

He said low pay also helps explain the high levels of staff turnover.
