Care home apologises but won't take back dementia sufferer, 89, evicted after breaking two of her fingers

AN 89-year-old dementia sufferer was evicted from a care home a day after breaking two fingers in an "incident", her daughter claims.

Frail Grace Nightingale is in hospital awaiting plastic surgery to repair her injuries.

But while she lay stricken with two fractured fingers on her right hand, care bosses have been accused of making the decision to “permanently discharge” her.

Her daughter Karen Cummings, 59, said she is taking issue with Gorton Parks Care Home in Manchester for her mother “who cannot fight back”.

Karen added: “This has really upset me. She told me Those people don't like me' but because she has this disease it would be difficult to prove who she is talking about.”

Staff called 999 when they saw the mum of three's bleeding hand on February 4.

The home has apologised and launched a probe, but Grace, a former lollipop lady who was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2016, does not have a care home to go to when she leaves hospital.

The apology letter from Gorton Parks has been seen by the Daily Express. Selina Ali, manager of the home, wrote to Karen under its "duty of candour" on February 11.

Ms Ali said: "I would like to express our sincere apologies that this event occurred and that we are sorry for any harm or distress this may have caused.
