PLANS to tackle binge drinking are "no longer fit for purpose" due to major consumption habit changes, experts warned.
The Nuffield Trust think-tank said there is a "changing profile" of heavy drinkers and those choosing to abstain.
This poses a challenge to treatment services and other health teams.
The 2012 national alcohol strategy focused on chronic consumption and "drunks in A&E" and does not reflect the "reality of problematic drinking in England".
Experts are calling for a new plan more focused on older people.
