Fury as officials admit they do not keep records of sexual offences by asylum seekers
OFFICIALS have admitted they do not know how many sex offences have been committed by asylum seekers.
The revelation, following a Daily Express probe, sparked uproar.
Reform MP Lee Anderson branded it "yet another failure of the British state to protect its citizens".
It also emerged that asylum seekers are not asked to give a DNA sample, unlike other countries, including the US. The news that the CPS do not keep track of the number of sex offences by asylum seekers came following a Freedom of Information request by the Express.
Protests near hotels housing migrants have been organised up and down the country in recent weeks amid fears the crisis could lead to a surge in crime.
Groups of mothers worried about their daughters' safety nearby have joined some demonstrations.
This followed reports of alleged sex attacks and one Ethiopian asylum seeker aged 38 being charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old.
Hadush Kebatu, staying at the Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, denies it.
Two men have also appeared in court charged in connection with the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton. Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch has alleged they are asylum seekers.
Mr Anderson said: "The CPS has failed to collect data on how many illegal migrants are committing sexual offences. Is this due to incompetence or an attempt to protect the reputation of illegals? The immigration experiment has failed massively.
It is time to deport every illegal migrant and restore safety and civility to our towns and cities." In the year to March, the CPS authorised charges for 14,914 people suspected of committing a sexual offence.
A conviction for such a crime was obtained against 13,190 defendants in the same period. But the CPS said it would have to manually review each case to assess the perpetrator's immigration status - and there was a chance it was never recorded at all.
