Brain's recall of bulkier body sabotages efforts to stay slim

DIETING can be sabotaged by the brain - which remembers our former weight and tries to get back to it, a study has suggested.

Scientists claim our brains have “powerful mechanisms for defending body weight” and can recall what we used to look like.

It all goes back to our ancient ancestors, who would lose fat during hard times but get it back thanks to “complex biological defences” within their system.

Today, that means our brains can obstruct us when we diet as they send signals in cravings - urging us to rebuild the body fat we once had.

Danish researchers at the University of Copenhagen explored the notion.
