Bomb disposal team sent to boat that ran aground

AN ELDERLY man on a boat that ran aground in the North East told rescuers he had been at sea for 45 days — as a bomb disposal team was called to search his vessel.

The solo sailer was picked up by the RNLI after reports of a vessel drifting dangerously close to rocks.

Yesterday the lifeboat charity said a crew had to “cut away the guard rails” to reach the man, who “required medical assistance”.
