BBC faced 'huge pressure to reveal identity of Huw

BBC bosses have spoken of being caught in a "maelstrom" as the Huw Edwards scandal broke.

Dame Elan Closs Stephens, the corporation's acting chairwoman, said it had come under "huge pressure" to disclose the star's name.

She told peers yesterday the BBC board held emergency meetings after The Sun reported that a teenager was paid for explicit photos by a presenter.

Dame Elan said: "We had a duty to act with some calm and rationality in the face of a lack of rationality and a lack of calm.
