Baby P’s mum pleads for parole but admits: ‘I’m a risk to kids in my care’

Horror...Baby P suffered more than 50 injuries. Inset, Connelly after arrest

Tracey Connelly, 44, was jailed in 2009 for causing or allowing the death of her 17-month-old son Peter at their London home in 2007.

Known publicly as Baby P, Peter suffered more than 50 injuries despite being on the at-risk register and receiving 60 visits from social workers, police officers and health professionals over eight months.

Connelly’s parole hearing is the seventh review for release, and the second review since she was recalled to prison last year after breaching licence conditions.

Asked if she perceives herself as being a risk to children, Connelly said: “Children in my care? Yes.

“Given how bad I was at it, I have to always accept that there is always a risk if I am left looking after children, which I can’t see ever being the case.

“Am I a risk to children walking down the street? No.”

Connelly also said she would not have a relationship with someone who has regular contact with children or grandchildren.

Ider savers are being urged to spring into action as the annual Cash ISA deadline looms on April 5, as they are least likely to shop around for a better rate. As well as finding a best-buy rate for this year's contributions, they should also check they are getting a decent return on previous ISAs.
