Alzheimer's drugs ruled 'too pricey' for NHS use

THE system is failing people with dementia, campaigners warn, after it was confirmed that two breakthrough drugs would not be made available on the NHS.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence said the benefits of lecanemab and donanemab remain “too small to justify the cost”.

It noted they could delay progression of Alzheimer’s disease from mild to moderate by six months. But the “overall costs of purchasing and administering” them were deemed too high for this to be cost effective.
