THESE were the apocalyptic scenes that greeted planes dropping aid into Gaza yesterday - as Israel was said to be poised to escalate its military offensive in the obliterated region.
The shocking pictures of once-bustling areas reduced to rubble and ruin were taken from Jordanian and German aircraft as they parachuted humanitarian supplies into the stricken enclave.
