AI software that predicts fall risk of elderly to be rolled out

Pilots of the app developed by social care provider Cera found it can predict falls with 97% accuracy.

It can also be used to detect symptoms of illnesses such as Covid, flu, RSV and norovirus to enable earlier intervention from care teams.

Doctors said the software had the potential “to be a real game-changer” for community care.

Information such as a patient’s sleep and mood is logged by carers on a phone app and the Fall Prevention AI platform uses it to predict whether the patient is likely to fall in the next few days.

Carers can then take preventative steps such as ensuring their charge is well hydrated and has clear paths to the toilet and kitchen.

Potential further steps include increasing the number of visits and contacting their loved ones.
