£15.6bn for transport but cuts 'inevitable'
Daily Express
|June 04, 2025
RACHEL Reeves will announce £15.6billion for rail, tram and bus schemes in the North, Midlands and South West today.
The plans will be unveiled amid Cabinet battles over next week’s spending review.
It comes after a poll found Chancellor Ms Reeves is now as unpopular with voters as her Tory predecessor Kwasi Kwarteng was following his disastrous mini-Budget in 2022, which plunged the UK into a financial crisis.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank warned that real-terms cuts to some Government departments are “almost inevitable” in the spending review on June 11 if Ms Reeves attempts to slash NHS waiting lists by increasing health spending.
