The Motherland and Philomena Cunk star contacted Moggies Cat Rescue in Aberdare after her friend rehomed a cat from them earlier this year.

The rescue was founded 12 years ago by friends Eileen Sewell and Doreen Miller after they had retired, before becoming a registered charity last year. They hope that through the help of their volunteers - and now their new patron Morgan - they will be able to raise awareness of the work that the charity does to rehome cats in South Wales.

Self-proclaimed “animal rights activist” Morgan headed down to the rescue to meet co-founder Doreen and some of the cats in their care.

Head of rehoming Nikki Scarf said: “It was very holistic, really, how it came about. Somebody who had recently rehomed a cat from us is a personal friend of Diane Morgan.

“He was just obviously sharing his news, that he’d rehomed this wonderful cat, and then a little bit about what our little rescue does.

“She offered to become our patron off the back of hearing her friend's story and experience with us, and his personal knowledge of the people who ran the rescue, and that’s how it came about and it was utterly fantastic.
