In a new regular column from Cheshire East Council, COUNCILLOR MICHAEL GORMAN, Deputy Leader of Cheshire East Council, provides an update on local businesses’ support for English devolution for the area.

Devolution would allow long-term planning with confidence for us, investors and employers

BUSINESS leaders across Cheshire and Warrington have written to local councillors in support of devolution for the area.

Regional business leaders have added their voice to those asking us to press for an agreement as soon as possible.

Why, you might ask, are they signing up to something when we don't yet know all the detail?

It's the same reason I am supporting working with government to support the best agreement for Cheshire East.

They have recognised the potential benefits of additional funding and the power to make more decisions locally about things that can make a real difference to people and livelihoods.
