Social care bill rises £6m in 12 months, reveals council

FIGURES released as part of Coventry City Council's annual report into adult social care show that £145million was spent in the 12 months to April an increase of nearly £6m from the previous year.

In his report, Pete Fahy, the council's director of adult services, explained that the figures highlighted the work being done to improve the lives of vulnerable people. It also kept tabs on how well the service was performing.

Speaking at a health and social care scrutiny board meeting, he said: "This is such a big area of our business, impacting on so many people of the city and with such a huge spend, the more oversight we have of our activity, the better.

"The annual report gives you a flavour of what we do and the impact of that.
