School attendance in the city set to be reviewed by council
Coventry Telegraph
|April 21, 2026
SCHOOL attendance across the city is to be reviewed by Coventry City Council in a new bid to tackle absenteeism.
The aim is to identify persistent absence from the classroom and offer support to pupils and their families so that attendance can be improved.
The city council's Scrutiny Coordination Committee met to approve recommendations relating to a review of school attendance in the city.
It has agreed that the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills currently Cllr Dr Kindy Sandhu supports officers in looking at the available data to “identify groups disproportionately affected by or at risk of severe persistent absence in order to identify appropriate early interventions to support those pupils and families.”
