Paterson's late strike just perfect for crucial City win

COVENTRY Kid Jamie Paterson scored a brilliant stoppage-time volley to give the Sky Blues victory against stubborn relegation battlers Portsmouth at the CBS Arena.

The late substitute latched onto a Jack Rudoni cross from just outside the six-yard box in the 94th minute, powering it past the keeper and into the far corner to fire Frank Lampard's men back into the play-off places.

Despite plenty of attacking endeavour from the Sky Blues, they managed just two shots on target over the course of the game, during which time they produced 13 attempts. Pompey were just as bad, also testing the keeper on just one occasion from their ten efforts on goal.
