MOBILE signs warning drivers to check their speed are to be installed on a Cheylesmore road in a bid to tackle speeding motorists.

And a plan to install a refuge to help people cross at a busy junction will also be considered by highways bosses.

David Keaney, Coventry City Council’s head of network management, made the pledge at the latest meeting of the cabinet member for city services. It was in response to a petition calling for action along William Bristow Road and prompted Cllr Roger Bailey, one of the council-lors who represent the area, to say that it would be a step in the right direction.

The petition said: “We the undersigned petition the council to implement speed reduction monitors on William Bristow Road. This will ease the reduction in speeding traffic as this road is used as a bus route and a main route cars use to get on to London Road as they are unable to turn right at the top of Daventry Road.”
