FINE MARGINS AT RIVERSIDE BUT SKY BLUES HAVE WINNING HABIT

- By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter

COVENTRY City prospered in their second top-of-the-table fixture in the space of just over two weeks to further flex their automatic promotion muscles and send a signal to the rest of the division that they're the real deal this season.

It’s a script that no-one could have written, to have first been pitted against Mark Robins’ Stoke and come out on top and then, on the other side of the international break go to the Riverside to face a Middlesbrough side led by caretaker boss Adi Viveash.

Both games saw the Sky Blues come up against their former manager and coach who couldn't have had a better insight to their strengths, and on both occasions they secured their points with late goals - a fact that highlights the determination, character and relentless mentality from a special group of players to keep going until the game is won.

Pinch yourself moment after misery and mediocrity

For City fans with a few more miles on the clock than the younger generation of supporters growing up with regular Wembley trips and promotions, this period in the club's history really is a pinch yourself moment.

Just looking at the numbers can spark a chuckle of almost disbelief. A ten point lead at the top of the Championship after a new record ten wins out of eleven in one season! It’s the stuff of dreams for the previously long-suffering Sky Blue Army more used to the misery and mediocrity in the 16 years from dropping out of the top flight to the rise back up to the brink of the big time.

We're being spoiled for goals - a whopping 47 and an incredible goal difference of 30 after just 17 games. If that’s nota signal to the rest of the division that Coventry City mean business this season then it’s hard to know what is!

What's setting City apart amid fine margins
