COVENTRY is set to receive funding to boost physical activity levels in communities with the greatest need.

- By JASPREET KAUR

Sport England will distribute the funding to local projects.

Coventry City Council joins 26 other recipients in receiving a share of the £250m funding initiative led by Sport England.

It aims to create long-term opportunities for people to engage in physical activity, improving overall health and wellbeing. Active lifestyles help the NHS save £8bn each year by reducing the number of preventable health issues.

Exercising can prevent more than 3.3m chronic health conditions, including 1.3m cases of depression and 900,000 cases of back pain, according to Sport England.
