WE do not normally associate knitting with award-winning writers, a blockbuster film and war heroes but that is exactly what the story of Tessa Lorant is all about.

Story of a child refugee who became a respected writer

Tessa Lorant became famous for her books about knitting and lace but was also a writer of fiction and an academic

It is a fascinating story of a young refugee who fled Hitler’s Austria to live in England in 1938.

Tessa, who lived in Godney, near Glastonbury, passed away last year but some of her books and patterns are collectors’ items.

She became famous for her books about knitting and lace, and won several awards.

But she was also a prolific fiction writer and academic, one of her science fiction novels Cloner, about human cloning, is due to be made into a film to be released next year.

Now her twin sons Colin and Richard are posthumously publishing her memoir to honour the memory of this celebrated writer who suffered from thinning hair during her life.
