Mendip trio help county secure regional success
Central Somerset Gazette
|July 10, 2025
AIMEE Sawyer, Ellen Reakes and Libby Dezis were all part of the Somerset County Team competing in the annual South West Counties event held at East Devon. They all contributed good points from their matches as Somerset enjoyed a fine win overall to progress through as South West Champions to compete in the National Finals.

The men’s Avalon C team enjoyed a fine win over Minehead, 3.5-1.5, with points gained by Malcolm Srawley & Craig Robertson, Scott & Chris Butland and Gary Quin & Clive Copp. Kevin Brimble & Tony Logan secured the half.
They were heavily beaten when visiting Fosseway though, which is a difficult place to pick up points.
The Avalon A side suffered their first loss of the season when visiting Worlebury. The combination of home advantage, together with having to give a lot of shots to the higher handicapped opponents, proved a little too much.
Mendip’s point came from team debutant Jack Cook & Clayton Merrett. They bounced back though in the reverse fixture, winning 3-2 with victories for Rod Edney & Paul Lewis, Tom Chapman & Spencer Pocock and Dan Allen & Jack Cook.
The ladies’ Reid Trophy saw a fine win for Sue Alcock with 39 points. Division One went to Lynne Vowles with 38, two ahead of Jo Espley.
Division Two was won by Susan Forshaw with 38, just one better than Chris Williams.
The ladies’ Alliance A team, missing their top three players who were on county duty, went down to a 10-4 defeat when visiting Saltford. Wins came from Maureen Charlton and Pauline Young.
