Summer blitz on town centre crime planned

Carmarthen Journal

July 16, 2025

SHOPPERS and businesses will see increased police patrols to tackle town-centre crime this summer in Carmarthen and Llanelli as part of a major blitz to make high streets safer.

- IAN LEWIS

The move will see more officers in several Mid and West Wales towns during peak times over the coming weeks. As well as Carmarthen and Llanelli, Aberystwyth, Brecon, Builth Wells, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Newtown and Tenby are also included.

More than 500 towns have signed up to the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's Safer Streets summer crackdown. The towns will see increased police patrols accompanied by stronger prevention and enforcement action by police, councils and other local partners.

Local police and crime commissioners have developed bespoke local action plans with police, businesses and local councils, with the aim of supporting town centres to become vibrant places where people want to live, work and spend time.
