Young India Schools project sparks row over cost escalation, tender premiums
Capital Information
|February 09, 2026
The proposed Young India International Residential Schools project has triggered a political and administrative controversy after allegations surfaced over sharp cost escalation and higher-than-estimated tender premiums in the multi-crore construction programme.
-
According to details circulating in official and contractor circles, the construction cost of each residential school has been pegged at about %200 crore, significantly higher than the initial estimate of $125 crore per campus. With the total project outlay touching around %11,500 crore, critics allege that excess quoting in tenders could add an additional burden of nearly 1,000 crore to the exchequer.
