Southern CMs Raise Alarm Over Delimitation Plan, Warn of Federal Imbalance

A sharp political divide emerged on Tuesday as several southern Chief Ministers voiced strong opposition to the Centre's proposed delimitation exercise, warning it could undermine federal balance and penalise states that have successfully controlled population growth.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin described the move as a “direct assault on the rights of states” and “an assault on democracy,” particularly in the context of ongoing elections in parts of the country. In a video statement, he questioned the rationale behind reducing representation for southern states despite their progress in population control, calling it a “final warning” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
