|July 12, 2025
In a major milestone for India’s semiconductor ambitions, Micron Technology's main facility in Gujarat is set to begin its certification process this month and is expected to go operational by the end of 2025, according to senior IAS officer Mona Khandhar.
-
The announcement comes on the heels of the first successful chip shift from Micron’s mini facility, signifying that India’s semiconductor journey has formally begun.
"We are at a critical turning point," said Khandhar, who serves as Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat.
“Micron’s main site will begin certification in July, and full-scale operations are expected to commence before the end of this year. Meanwhile, the first chip has already come out from the company’s mini site, which has been operational since late 2024. That's a proud moment not just for Gujarat but for India," Khandhar told UNI in an interaction on this side lines of GCC Awards 2025.
