Meghalaya Govt aims to make Shillong the football capital of India: CM Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that his government's vision is to ensure that Shillong becomes the next “football capital of India”, a football powerhouse in the country.

Speaking at the unveiling of the three magnificent domestic football tournamentsthe Durand Cup, the Shimla Trophy and the President's Cup here today, Sangma said that his government has supported sports activities in the state.

Sangma said that the way his government has supported sports during the past seven years, has been very different from what took place before that.

"In the last seven years, close to 70 per cent of the sports infrastructure in the state has been created, and, close to around Rs 2000 crore has been invested in different projects pertaining to sports infrastructure," he said.
