Devastating fire leaves Gugulethu families homeless

RESIDENTS were sifting through the burnt remains of their homes in Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu, trying to salvage what they could from the ruins of a fire, while others sought temporary shelter with relatives and family members.
SEVERAL families have been left devastated after a fire ripped through a backyard cluster of informal structures in Barcelona Informal Settlement in Gugulethu in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"One of our priorities now is to provide food for the residents who have had nothing to eat all day and have no plans on getting food. We are trying to provide for the rest of the day and for the evening as well," community leader Betty Duli-Mkinase said.
