SECOND HALF HEADER BREAKS DEADLOCK

- By STEPHEN PAGE

Gibbons gets his head in the game to secure victory over Salford

Liam Bennett

JAMES Gibbons' second-half header gave Cambridge United a 1-0 victory over League Two promotion rivals Salford City at the Abbey on Saturday.

The defender netted four minutes after the restart to earn the third-placed U's the points against the now sixth-placed Ammies, after a lunchtime kickoff.

United's 20th League Two victory of the season moved them onto 72 points from 38 matches played, with Neil Harris' side remaining two points inside the automatic promotion places with eight fixtures to play.

The Ammies dropped one place in the table following their defeat, with 67 points recorded after 39 games, five points off the automatic spots and inside the playoffs.

Harris made one change to the lineup from Tuesday's 0-0 draw at Walsall, with James Brophy coming back into the side for Korey Smith, who dropped to the bench.
