|March 10, 2026
A NEW weather radar facility in Iloilo has been inaugurated while construction begins on a separate observation station, steps expected to strengthen weather monitoring and forecasting in Western Visayas.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) led the opening of the Iloilo Radar Facility and the groundbreaking of a new synoptic station in the province.
The lloilo S-band Radar Facility is equipped with a dual-polarimetric Doppler radar system designed to improve the monitoring of weather disturbances across Western Visayas and nearby areas.
The radar provides high-resolution and near real-time data that can help track heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms and tropical cyclones.
