Marcos mulls govt spending boost

To keep the country’s economic growth target on track despite the Middle East crisis, President Marcos is eyeing to boost government spending on infrastructures and healthcare programs and minimize its energy expenses.

Marcos made the statement at the sidelines of the inspection of prefabricated classrooms, the presentation and turnover of learning resources, and observation of the implementation of the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (Yakap) at Kalinga Caravan at the Mariveles National High School - Cabcaben Annex in Mariveles, Bataan, on Thursday.

"We have to accelerate all of these [projects] because of the oil crisis that is happening—we are facing problems because of the war in the Middle East," Marcos said partly in Filipino in an interview with reporters at the sidelines of the event.

Economists have warned that tighter credit, higher oil prices, and delays in government infrastructure spending can slowdown economic growth.
