Rovers suffer a painful start to their season

|July 28, 2025
GRESLEY Rovers came back to earth with a bump after their promising preseason when Sherwood Colliery thumped them 5-1 at the Moat Ground in the opening UCL Premier Division North game of the season.
-
Relegated last season, Sherwood are expected to be among the front-runners in this campaign and they showed why, with widely-travelled 40-year-old former Nottingham Forest striker Craig Westcarr starting with a four-goal haul for his latest club.
Rovers had eight first team players absent and started the game hesitantly.
Sherwood took the lead after 17 minutes when Gresley keeper Tommy Miller brought down Jacob Pearce in the box and Westcarr netted the penalty.
