Gray rages at lack of effort from ‘talented’ players after defeat

GRESLEY Rovers manager Andy Gray lost patience with his players after Monday's 2-1 defeat away to Belper United in the ULC Premier Division North.

Gray threatened changes after a lacklustre performance in which the Moatmen took an early lead through Fin Barker but were behind by halftime and rarely looked like coming back, despite Belper having a man sent off after 35 minutes.

It is still only a few weeks since Gray recruited most of his squad but he is threatening big changes after Rovers’ fourth defeat in six League games.

“That was an embarrassment to Gresley Rovers from start to finish and that's not an overreaction - it's players not wanting to get on the ball and be aggressive against 10 men," he said.

“There will be changes. If | have to rip things up and start again, | will do.

“Some of the players are good enough but you've got to be mentally strong.

“We came across a team today who ran and ran and we didn’t.”

The Moat boss says talent is not the issue.

“| keep saying, what they have in their feet is fantastic,” he said.

“We have some great talented footballers but it's not all about that.

“As pretty as you want to be, if you're not willing to work hard you're going to lose games.
