Transport Junction revamp plans approved

PLANS to overhaul a busy North Somerset junction in a bid to ease traffic, improve safety and boost public transport links have been approved.

The redesign of the A370 Smallway junction in Congresbury aims to futureproof the area’s road network by tackling congestion, supporting bus travel and improving pedestrian access. The approved works, part of a wider strategy to modernise local infrastructure, include a raft of changes to improve traffic flow and active travel.

Key features of the scheme include the extension and widening of the left-hand lane heading to Yatton from the Weston-super-Mare direction, designed to increase junction capacity. Traffic signals will be installed on all arms of the junction, including left and right turns to Yatton, to better regulate vehicle movements.
