THE main cycle path between Bristol and Bath could finally be set to get more security in the form of 20 new CCTV cameras - a year after cyclists and pedestrians told council chiefs it was needed.

The Bristol to Bath Railway Path in Staple Hill

The Bristol and Bath Railway Path is set to get improvements between Teewell Hill in Staple Hill and Bitton Station, as part of a £1 million scheme funded by the West of England Combined Authority.

The cameras will be located at crime hotspots along the shared railway path, between the Staple Hill tunnel and the old Mangotsfield railway station, with two more at the Warmley Station waiting room cafe and cycle hub.

The idea was first drawn up back in 2024, with councillors in South Gloucestershire backing it, and the West of England Combined Authority pencilling in money from its Government funding to improve sustainable travel and transport.

That came after numerous reports from users of the Railway Path describing it as 'the Wild West'.
