Pervaiz stars with six-wicket haul in Stapleton's tied finish with Downend

TIES are a rare event in any form of cricket but Stapleton have now managed two in a row after finishing all square with neighbours Downend 2nds in a thrilling Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League derby.

- Steve HILL

Visitors Downend lost the toss and were made to toil as Stapleton piled up 324-7 from their 45 overs, thanks to the efforts of Alfie Lewis (79), Dan Lambert (72), opener Ed Chidgey (58) and George McEndoo (53). But Downend also enjoyed a flat wicket, short boundaries and a fast outfield to take control of this Senior Division clash and reach 292-3 in the 40th over.

McEndoo then struck, dismissing opener Dave Goodway for a run-a-ball 114 (14 fours, three sixes).

That dismissal was the spark for Babar Pervaiz to strike in remarkable style, including taking three wickets in the 43rd over of the match.
