Memories of growing up in the 60s and 70s

If you lived in Hillfields in the 1960s and 70s, you're going to want a copy of a charming and nostalgic memoir of growing up in the area, just published by a local author.

As a local history enthusiast, 'I thought it important that my memories be recorded to give an idea of what the area was like to live in back in the 1960s and 1970s,’ says Larry Bennett, who's just published a 64-page booklet about growing up in Hillfields in the 1960s and 70s.

If you were around at the time, you might even remember Larry - he’d have been known as Lawrence Bennett at the time.

“The booklet is, by its nature, somewhat autobiographical, with my parents and grandparents being lovingly remembered. My parents were both active members of the local community, and they lived in their house on the estate for all of their married life together. Back in the 1960s, our neighbours were always happy to see us, and it was a regular occurrence for us to pop in to each other's houses for a cup of tea and piece of cake”
