Harbour Report outlines programme of urgent repairs and improvements
Bristol Post
|June 19, 2025
BRISTOL Harbour is set for a summer of essential engineering, environmental initiatives, and visitor engagement.
The plans are outlined by a report by the Harbour Master which is set to be presented to the Harbour Committee. It reveals a series of urgent repairs, safety audits, and infrastructural upgrades set to shape the future of the city's historic waterway.
Among the key updates, the Prince Street Bridge is scheduled for essential footing replacement works at the end of the summer season. This timing is designed “to ensure minimum disruption” during peak harbour use. Similarly, the entrance lock has been flagged for urgent servicing and repair, with funding already secured and a full survey of gates and sluices imminent.
Engineering teams have also tackled structural cracks on Plimsoll Bridge and multiple faults on the Plimsoll and Prince Street bridges, addressing them quickly to avoid major disruption. Further work is pending on the Netham Lock outer gate, which currently has no impact on operations but needs reseating after riding off its bearing.
