The Robins confirmed their place in the second round of the season’s first cup competition with a 2-0 win over Paul Warne’s side at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening. A first-half header from Jason Knight and a second-half strike from Yu Hirakawa were enough to maintain the Reds’ unbeaten start under their new manager.

- GERHARD Struber has explained the decision to leave Rob Atkinson and Radek Vitek out of the Bristol City squad for the Reds’ midweek Carabao Cup win over MK Dons, with the head coach confirming both players should be fit and avail- able to feature against Charlton Athletic at Ashton Gate tomorrow, writes Dan Carter.

Knight gave City the lead with just six minutes played. The Ireland international rose highest to head home a Scott Twine corner before Hirakawa wrapped up the tie just 15 minutes into the second half.

Having been introduced at the break, the Japan international brought down a Twine cross before curling a right-footed shot into the top right corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.
