Football Stockport may make a move for City defender Roberts

STOCKPORT County hold an interest in Bristol City defender Haydon Roberts, the Bristol Post understands, with the 23-year-old entering the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate.

It is understood the League One club, who finished third last season before eventually being beaten by Leyton Orient in the playoffs, are admirers of the Brighton academy graduate who featured regularly for the Robins last season as they ended their 17-year wait for a top six finish.

Roberts played 34 times in all competitions under Liam Manning last season, featuring at left-back, left wing-back and left centre-back. While his performances were mixed at times, he popped up with the stoppage-time winner in the closing exchanges against West Brom, which gave the Robins an important edge in the playoff battle and was voted the club's Champagne moment of the season.
