Football Lockyer and Morton in fitness race for Bromley clash

BRISTOL Rovers head coach Steve Evans has provided injury updates for Tom Lockyer and Callum Morton ahead of his first home game in charge of the club against Bromley today.

- Will MURRAY

The 63-year-old secured an important 1-1 draw in his first game in charge at Crewe Alexandra, with Morton scoring the equaliser for the Gas. This result moved Rovers out of the relegation zone, following Harrogate Town's 4-0 defeat at home to MK Dons.

Speaking about the fitness of Lockyer, who missed the trip to Crewe with a niggle, Evans said: "Yeah, he's trained for a couple of days now. He's trained very well. Tom's a seasoned professional. I've come up against Tom many, many times. Our teams have done battle on many occasions. I did profess that I didn't like him because he used to kick my strikers and then injure them.

"But, no, he's a really good professional. Not only just a good guy, I came across him before, obviously, I took the Rovers job through some media work we both did, but yeah, he's been on the grass and trained really well."

Morton, who scored his first goal for Rovers in the 12th minute at the Mornflake Stadium, has impressed since joining the club on a short-term contract at the end of November. It was his first start since joining the club, but he was withdrawn in the 77th minute, with what looked like an injury.
